This is a beautiful early 1800’s Federal Pine blanket Chest. The single plank top has an applied molded edge on each side and the front.
The front and sides are made from single wide boards that include the nice shaped feet and aprons. A small detailed molding runs around the bottom and sides. Two pine boards make up the back while a single board is used on the bottom.. Offset rabbet joints are used to connect the corners together.
Inside the trunk is a small lidded compartment.
The trunk is mostly covered with a painted faux grain using a red and mustard colored swirl pattern.
This is a very old and well used trunk, and as can be seen in the photos there are signs of wear and age cracks. as can be seen in the photos the bottoms of the front side of the feet are missing small sections, and a repair has been done on the right side near the front foot. The lock working and a key is included, but the original catch on the lid has been removed so the trunk does not lock. At least one of the hinges is not original.
