Antique Chinese Carved Wedding Bed. This beautiful piece has just recently arrived in our warehouse. This bed has 2 big differences from most of the antique wedding beds we have had in the past and will appeal to many buyers.

First, it can take some queen-size mattresses. The mattress area measures 59″ x 80″.
NOTE: Many queen sizes will not fit or be very tight. It is up to the buyer to verify the size and purchase a mattress that fits. No Mattress is included. It may be necessary to have a custom mattress made if you want more clearance.

Second, the sides are more open than many of the beds with closed in sides. This makes it much easier to make up the bed, as well as it gives the bed a less massive, more delicate look.

A front step-up platform has enclosed sides and wonderful carvings on the front.  The incredibly detailed pair of Foo (Fu) Dogs protect either side as you enter. The female Fu dog, or protective lion, is on the left and is holding her pup. The male on the right is holding a ball, representing the world. Each Fu dog sits on a carved pillow or pedestal.

I could spend many paragraphs explaining the details and symbolism of all of the pierced and relief gilt accented carving on the front surround, but the photos really show you better than I could explain it.

This is a beautifully detailed Antique Chinese wedding or opium bed.

Approx. Dimensions: 84″ Wide, 88″ Deep for the main enclosure. The top header projects out an additional 11″. The height of the main enclosure is 96″. The height to the top of the carved front header is 100″.
