1800s Flame Mahogany Bowfront Sideboard

We are happy to offer this beautiful antique 1800s Flame Mahogany Bowfront Sideboard. This is a Sheraton-style sideboard with flame/crotch mahogany veneer on the doors and drawer fronts.

The photos do a much better job than the written description, but below are some details.

This main case of this 6 ft long sideboard has a wide bowfront-shaped drawer in the center with a single narrower concave-shaped drawer on either side. The drawers have hand-cut dovetails with hand-planed drawer bottoms. There is fine bead detail around the front edges of the drawer fronts.

Below each of the end drawers is a door that follows the same curved lines as the drawers. Below the center drawer is a pair of doors, but they have a unique shape that compliments but does not match the same curve as the drawers. The doors have the small same edge bead detail as the drawers.

It appears the flame mahogany veneer on each door is cut from the same piece that is on the matching drawer front above. The hardware on the drawers does not look original to the piece but is a period-correct replacement.

The solid mahogany top follows the unique shape of the case and has a reeded edge detail.

The corners of the case transition into the round tapered reeded legs with turned feet. There are also 2 supports/legs on either side of the center drawer. The 4 front supports/legs have a hand relief carved design of leaves. The flat sections have reeded details.

The center drawer and each of the side doors have a lock. The left door on the center pair of doors has a latch that released from the inside, and the right door has a lock. We do have a key that works 3 of the locks, but the 4th is not currently functional.

Overall the sideboard is in very good condition. It has had a repair to one of the legs, and there are some small areas where the veneer is a little loose. I do not notice any areas of missing veneer. The sideboard shows very well as is, but could use a good cleaning and polishing to bring out the beautiful grain.
