This beautiful antique Asian natural sculpture has been in the making for hundreds of years.
At some point an old and mature camphor tree ended up in a tidal river off the South China sea. After possibly a century or more of natural wear and smoothing of the roots by the movement of the water and sand, the softer wood is worn away and the hardwood is left with a surface has been naturally polished. What is left of the tree is at some point discovered and recovered from the water. An artist uses his trained eye and selects a section of the root that has the balance he is looking for.
The result is this wonderful one of a kind piece of art. This sculpture takes on totally different looks when viewed from different angles.
