This tall cabinet is very unique and shows off the unique skills of the craftsman who made it. It is not the typical style of a Chinese wardrobe cabinet.
The large detailed crown molding is stepped out on each end as it wraps a carved column on either side of the pair of large doors.
Below the crown is a relief carved header that features intricately carved Fu (Foo) dogs along with other symbols and designs.
The large doors each feature two panels that have fancy moldings and a relief carved bat between them, as well as more moldings below the lower panel.
At the bottom of the cabinet are two drawers with a carved apron below.
The ends of the cabinet have a tall raised panel with smaller panels above and below.
All of the detail work and the use of varying stain colors in the wood make this a stunning one of a kind piece.
There is typical wear due to the age, and some loss of wood, mostly at the bottom of the baseboard on the sides and on some molded edges. Also, the locks on the doors and drawers have been removed and the holes filled.
The small knobs on the doors appear to be bone.
This wonderful piece is not the typical style of a Chinese wardrobe cabinet. You may considered this more of a masculine piece and it would look great in a den or office. It will certainly become a focal point wherever you choose to display it.
