This antique Asian large armoire cabinet has 2 flush panel doors that are flush with the front framework of the cabinet. Below the doors is a wide flat apron with a hidden storage compartment behind it. The compartment is accessible by removing the section of wood that sits vertically in front of the lower shelf.
The doors have drop pulls that are mounted on a very large round back plate, half on each door. This very unusual and original hardware is not flat like most of the round hardware, but is spherical and projects out about 1 inch in the center. The keeper pin has most likely been replaced.
There is a beautiful pierced carved apron between the front legs. The apron has carved Fu (Foo) dogs on each end, which are symbols of protection, along with some birds and other animals. In the center is the symbol for double happiness, so it is likely this was a wedding cabinet.
The antique Chinese elm wood cabinet is finished in a dark brown lacquer. The rear legs have had some repairs done during restoration.
