This unusual antique drop leaf table table looks like it could have come from and English Tavern or an 18th century New England home.
The drop leaf top has a nice molded edge detail. The two leaves each have 3 mortise hinges, securely connecting them to the fixed top.
The upper case has a single drawer on each end. One drawer front appears to have been replaced or repaired. The drawer hardware is not original to the table. The top of the four fixed legs make up the corner posts of the upper case. The legs have nicely proportioned turnings down most of their length. There is a square section near the bottom of the legs that have fixed stretchers between them. The legs on leaf supports match the other 4 legs. Each of the gate stretchers are connected to the fixed stretchers with wooden pivots.
This antique gate leg table has much of it’s dark lacquer intact, although there is a lot of wear near the lower parts.
