Antique Chinese 35 inch Cabinet, 2 Doors with Upper Storage sections.
This unusual cabinet has 2 doors on the lower section. Although the doors are not real large, a vertical post between the doors can be easily removed to allow much easier access to the inside.
The top of the cabinet has 2 removable sections that can be secured in place. We have been told that his cabinet is a fermenting cabinet, although we have never had a never had a similar cabinet and can find no other references to confirm that. It is possible that jars of cabbage or other vegetables were stored in pickling jars and then locked in the upper section to keep them safe during the fermenting process. Whether or not that was the actual use of the upper section, the story makes a good conversation.
This cabinet is very sturdy and heavy, and can find many uses in your home. The warm rust colored lacquer has been freshened up and would blend in with most decors. Other than the typical replacement of the original hardware, this pieces is in mostly original condition. The right side of the upper section does have side supports indicating there was probably a removable shelf at one time.
