This chair had a curved back rail that does not extend beyond the frame, which is why it is referred to as a Southern official’s hat chair.

The Back Splat has beautiful relief carvings.

There is also an unusual carved front apron below the panel seat.
The stretcher below the apron has a molded detail, which continues down the inside of the front legs.

As can be seen there is some wear on the bottom of the feet but the chair is structurally sound.
