This Antique Chinese bench has a flush panel top with a simple edge.
Each of the round legs are fastened to the top frame with double mortise and tenon joints. The exposed tenons are visible on the top. The legs angle slightly outward when viewed from the ends. There is a single stretcher between each pair of the end legs that are also fastened with mortise and tenon joints.
There is an apron that runs between the legs on the front and back side. The straight apron has a carved apron-head spandrels on each end that is shaped on a traditional cloud design. Most of the apron has a molded bead detail on the bottom edge. This detail continues onto a smaller apron on each end.
This Antique Chinese bench is fairly rustic, and the original reddish finish has been removed. As shown in the photos you can see the wear and some deterioration on the bottom of the legs and also some shrinkage cracks, but the bench is structurally sound.
We do have a second matching rustic antique Chinese bench if you are looking for a pair.
