This oval Chinese wood utility bucket would have originally been used to store shoes.
The main part of the bucket is constructed like a barrel, with curved slats bound by 2 metal bands. On each end is a hand carved raised wood handle that resembles a horn. The top slides under a notch by one handle and the opposite end of the top is cutout to fit around the other handle. The bottom of the lid has a wood support for stability.
Due to the shrinkage from dryness in the wood, the metal bands are not tight to the wood in some areas.
This nice antique Chinese utility bucket is finished in a dark brown lacquer. Due to the small size of this piece, you could find many way to display and utilize it.
