This unusual oval antique Chinese wood bucket would have originally been used to store shoes.
The main part of the bucket is constructed like a barrel, with curved slats bound by metal bands. One half of the top is fixed in place with 3 metal straps. The other half of the top has a projecting section of wood that slides into a matching groove on the fixed section of the top. The movable section of the lid would have been secured with a latch and pin on the front (Pin not included)
Each side of the bucket has a a drop handle with square back plates.
As can be seen in the photos there is a shrinkage space between staves on the back side. Due to the shrinkage from dryness in the wood, the metal bands are not tight to the wood in some areas.
This nice utility bucked is finished in a dark brown lacquer. Due to the small size of this piece, you could find many way to display and utilize it.
