This unusual oval antique Chinese wood bucket would have originally been used to store shoes.
The main part of the bucket is constructed like a barrel, with curved slats bound by woven bands. These bans are most likely made from split bamboo, and are less common than the typical metal bands. One half of the top is fixed in place with 3 metal straps. The other half of the top has a projecting section of wood that slides into a matching groove on the fixed section of the top. The movable section of the lid would have been secured with a latch and pin on the front (Pin not included)
Each side of the bucket has a a drop handle with back plates that resemble flower petals
This nice utility bucked is finished in a dark brown lacquer which contrast nicely with the lighter bamboo bands. Due to the small size of this piece, you could find many way to display and utilize it.
