This low table with solid ends has 5 drawers the have raised panel fronts. There is a nice bead detail around the drawer openings, under the bottom stretcher and down the legs. As the bead hits the bottom of the legs, it transitions to a squares scroll design. There is a graceful stepped up apron below the drawers that turns and continues down the inside of the legs. The shape of this apron is quite typical of pieces from the Tianjin region.
It appears the hardware is all original except for the drops handles on the end drawers. The tops and sides are single planks connected with hand cut dovetail joints.
This piece could fit in many places, but would fit really nice at the foot of a bed. It would also make an unusual coffee table or it would look great sitting under a wide screen TV.
This piece was originally finished in a black lacquer, and much of it remains on the front. Evan though most of the lacquer has worn off the top and sides, this piece has a wonderful patina.
