Antique Mongolian Sideboard Buffet Storage Cabinets.

We have made a separate category for for antique Mongolian cabinets because of their fairly distinct style, They can be found in many different lengths, but most of them share common features. Most of the Mongolian cabinets have basic cases. What makes the Mongolian cabinets stand out is the colorful hand painted front panels. Many of these cabinets were originally used as grain storage bins that were only accessible from the top through removable sections. During restoration most Mongolian cabinets have had the beautiful front panels converted to doors to make the cabinets functional. Also, in some cases the painted aprons are converted to drawer fronts. Some of the Mongolian cabinets have fancy raised carvings applied to the border of the doors. These cabinets typically do not have the fancy paintings, but usually the carvings are painted different colors than the doors.

Many of the cabinets you find listed as Mongolian may actually have originated in Gansu, China. Mongolia, Inner Mongolia and Gansu are all in the same region and their cabinets are very similar in construction.
